Gaibandha-5 declared vacant following demise of Adv Fazle Rabbi Miah

The constituency of Gaibandha-5 has been declared vacant following the demise of Deputy Speaker Md Fazle Rabbi Miah.

Legislative Support Wing of the Parliament Secretariat revealed this information in a notification on Sunday (July 24).

According to the Constitution, by-election should be held within 90 days in the vacant constituency. But there is scope to extend the time if the by-election is not held within 90 days for any reason.

 

Deputy Speaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah died in a hospital in New York while undergoing treatment on Friday night (Bangladesh time).

The body of the Deputy Speaker is supposed to arrive in Dhaka on July 25.

His first Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at National Eidgah in Dhaka tomorrow. After Janaza at 10:30am, his body will be kept at National Eidgah for the last respect. The Janaza of Deputy Speaker will not be held at the Parliament Plaza due to Covid-19.
